Redesigning the IISc website

How often do you use your university website?

Do you go through the pain of navigating through the pages or simply “Google it”? Or is the navigation painful or enjoyable?

Did you find what you were looking for? Did you “stalk” your university before getting into it? How much did it make a difference in your decision? How was your overall experience?

These were some of the questions which came to our mind when we landed up with the project of redesigning our university website. Indian Institute of Science (or IISc in short), the premier research institute in India needs no introduction. But the website we have now was developed incrementally as individual pages of content as per requests by the stakeholders having an undesigned information architecture. Recently IISc had gone through a rebranding exercise therefore, rebranding the website was an obvious next step. So this project landed up in our hands, a bunch of students of the design department. This is our journey through designing it and we are still on our way to develop it.
